Dr. Natalia Meir is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Literature and Linguistics at Bar-Ilan University, Israel, where she also coordinates the Linguistics in Clinical Research Program. She is affiliated with the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center at Bar-Ilan University. Dr. Meir earned her PhD from Bar-Ilan University, focusing on language skills in bilingual children with and without Developmental Language Disorder. During her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Haifa, she researched the language skills of bilingual children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Dr. Meir’s research interests include typical and atypical language development in monolingual and bilingual populations, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Language Disorder, and Hearing Impairment. She focuses on heritage language development and maintenance across the lifespan, seeking to understand the linguistic and extra-linguistic factors that shape heritage language grammars in children and adults. Her research has been funded by grants from the Israel Science Foundation (ISF), the German-Israel Foundation (GIF), and the U.S.-Israel Binational Science Foundation (BSF).
Currently, Dr. Meir serves as an Associate Editor for Applied Psycholinguistics (Cambridge University Press). She co-editored the book Methods for Assessing Multilingual Children: Disentangling Bilingualism from Specific Language Impairment (Multilingual Matters), a publication resulting from the European COST Action IS0804 Bilingual Specific Language Impairment (biSLI) network. She is also a member of the Bilingualism Matters network, a global community of experts engaging the public with the latest research on multilingualism, and serves on the Multilingual and Multicultural Affairs Committee of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP).
