Dr. Katie Von Holzen is a researcher and lecturer in the English Linguistics group at the Technical University of Braunschweig (Germany). She received a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay (USA) and a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Göttingen (Germany). Her previous academic positions include the Paris Descartes University (now Université Paris Cité, France), the University of Maryland (United States), and the Technical University of Dortmund (Germany).

Katie’s research focuses on first and second language acquisition of German and English, specifically how phonological and lexical information can drive learning. She pioneered the study of non selective lexical access in bilingual children and has expanded our understanding of the developmental trajectory of consonant-vowel asymmetry in infancy. Her current research program examines the early steps to process and learn from foreign language by studying both young, early L2 learners as well as more experienced L2 learners, focusing on speech modifications, phonotactic cues, and cross-linguistic lexical overlap. She is the project leader of the ManyBabies-AtHome Looking-While-Listening project, which aims to create a global, multilingual study of infant word recognition using remote eye-tracking. Her work has been funded by the German Research Foundation.

Katie currently serves as the IASCL Media Coordinator. She is also part of the leadership committee of ManyBabies-AtHome.
