Dr. Gillian Wigglesworth is a Redmond Barry Distinguished Professor in the School of Languages and Linguistics at the University of Melbourne (Australia) and chief investigator in the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language. Widely published in first and second language acquisition and bilingualism, her research focuses on the multilingual languages contexts of Australian Indigenous children living in remote communities, and the linguistic challenges they face on entering the English-based, school system. Her work focuses the complexity of their language ecology, the maintenance of home languages and the challenges they face in learning English.
