Dra. Aguilar-Mediavilla earned her PhD in Psychology and Speech and Language Therapist from the University of Barcelona. She was teacher, researcher and visitor at several universities (University of Barcelona, National University of Distance Education-UNED, Open Catalania University-UOC, Palacky university, University of Chile and University City of London) and since 2001 she is a professor at the University of the Balearic Islands, currently as a Full Professor. She currently holds the positions of director of the Institute for Educational Research and Innovation, as well as president of the Association for the Study of Language Acquisition (AEAL).
Her research has focused on language acquisition, language difficulties, specifically developmental language disorder, bilingualism, and phonological acquisition.
She is associate editor of the Revista de Logopedia, Foniatría y Audiología, and of Frontiers in Psychology. She has extensive experience as an evaluator of national (State Research Agency and various regional and university agencies) and international (European Union, Conacyt México, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, or Health Research Board of Ireland) scientific committee boards, as well as reviewer of scientific journals such as Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in Schools, Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, Journal of Communication Disorders or International Journal of Language & Communication Disorders. In addition, she has obtained two national 'Jordi Perelló' prizes for research in Speech Therapy from the College of Speech and Language Therapists of Catalonia.
